21st Century Film Corporation and Cannon 21st was a
project for Menahem Golan when he left (or pushed out of maybe) Cannon. Just
like Cannon, 21st Century
had been around for a long time (1971) before Golan arrived. Giancarlo Parretti (who bought Cannon,
renamed it Pathe and then merged it with MGM, fled the USA and is still
wanted by US authorities) bought the company and gave control to Golan along with some funding apparently. 21st
at the IMDb Golan was soon dumped (or left again,) and 21st
was renamed Cannon
Pictures. Never found an artwork connection between these 2 companies but take a
look at this copyright note on the UK VHS tape of The Rose Garden (1989). UK VHS tape and the films end
titles (click for larger image) Look at the end titles here and the copyright
is confirmed and amazingly the Cannon logo is the wrong way around. The UK VHS was released by
Cannon Video/Pathé. MGM do control some rights to 21st Century Film Corporation product like The Phantom of the Opera 21st Century Film Corporation
and Golan kept the Marvel rights to Captain America which would have stayed at
Cannon I assume had it not been merged with MGM. The 21st name is now owned by Fox Entertainment Group Inc (ie Twentieth
Century Fox), as for the film/video rights, they're all over the place. |
